Hi there! Welcome to another exciting week of the Quilt Me A Bag series! Today we look at my Club CloBird 2016 “Miss May” pattern, which is an odd coincidence considering the 2017 May subscriptions are heading out shortly and I’m the May designer again! Freaky timing! But kinda cool at the same time!
ANYWAY! 🙂 The pattern for today is the Carry All Flexi Clutch!
If you’re new to the series – welcome! It’s great to have you join us! ? You can find the earlier posts in this series here –

The Carry All Flexi Clutch is a versatile clutch pattern that comes with a variety of outer pocket shapes. It also has the option of a recessed zipper closure or a simple magnetic snap. Instructions even include adding piping (or not!) for those who want to get a little bit fancy. Go on, you know you want to!
(Side note: you can find my FREE downloadable tutorial sheets here, one of which includes adding piping! Whoot whoot!)
With all the different options, you have complete flexibility on how you create YOUR flexi clutch!
Quick shout out to our series partner – the one and only Alison Glass – as well as our amazingly creative Crystal Harrison (the maker behind all these gorgeous bags). Please remember to pop over to their pages (links at the end) and give them some love as this series wouldn’t be happening without their fantastic support!
The sponsor for this post is the generous Kylie from Voodoo Rabbit Fabric, who has donated a $40 AUD gift certificate to one lucky winner! Thank you so much Kylie! You can find Kylie’s shop here – make sure you go and check out all her goodies, especially her range of alternative and funky fabric (and of course bag hardware!!).
You will find all giveaway details including T&C’s at the end of this post, as well as information on how to enter (it’s super simple!).
Carry All Flexi Clutch
To create this quilty Carry All Flexi Clutch, Crystal used prints from the Sun Print 2015 collection.
She decided to have a bit of fun and paper piece some flying geese for both the outer pockets and the outer gusset! She used the free Flying Geese Paper Pieced Beginner border pattern by SoCalSew which you can find here.
An outer pocket is starting to take shape!
Progress shot! As a side note, Crystal says “I Love! Love! Love! Flying geese!” I can see why! They’re gorgeous!
For the main outer panels Crystal used simple wavy quilting which looks just gorgeous on this textured grey fabric!!
The outer panels are starting to take shape!
To create the outer gusset using flying geese, she stitched two flying geese templates together along the ‘bottom seam’ and added 3 1/2″ (9cm) to the top of each side of the gusset. Once all was assembled, she then trimmed to size using the pattern piece.
When creating the outer gusset, she says NOT to trim the paper pieced panel as you go. Instead, trim to size using the Carry All Flexi Clutch pattern piece at the END, once you’ve added extra fabric to the top of each side, ensuring the gusset is large enough to fit the clutch.
For paper piecing, Crystal recommends using a hot, dry iron. She also suggests (ok, swears by), her ‘Add a Quarter Inch’ ruler (apparently it’s life changing 🙂 ).
An added extra for even flatter, more perfectly pieced, strip of flying geese is the use of a spray starch. Crystal uses ‘flatter’ which has a yummy pineapple smell on ‘pretty much everything’. LOL! 🙂
And a few simple steps later, we have a gorgeous quilty Carry All Flexi Clutch!!
I love this! I think Crystal’s done an AH-mazing job of this Carry All Flexi Clutch! What do you think?

I like the fabric pocket.
Zippered pocket is my favourite, as you can add extra colour and bling simply. It is also very functional, keeping items safe and close at hand.
I like the skewed pocket option, because it sets the Carry All Flexi Clutch apart from all other clutches out there….that have regular straight or curved pockets, and I do like ‘different’ lol
Thanks for the chance to win.
Hugs
Naomi
Congratulations Naomi! You are the winner!!! Please check your inbox for an email from Andrie Designs! 🙂
I prefer the angled pocket, contrasts especially nicely with the vertical stripes.
Thanks for the opportunity,
Jen
I love my clutch, and can’t wait to try this. My favourite style would be the curved clutch pattern. It looks like I’ll be making a few more of these
All look beautiful but I think I would only trust myself with the straight pocket!
Again, I love it all!! I need to get making myself a bag!
Hi I would go with the zipper – keeps everything in but I also like asymmetry 🙂
I have always loved the skewed pocket, and have used it three times on my flexi clutches. Such a beautiful curved line.
I do like a zippered pocket, safe and secure, but would be tempted to try all on multiple clutches. Why stop at one when friends can be spoilt. I LOVE Flying Geese and it looks amazing on this clutch
Stunning clutch Crystal. I love the straight pocket but would like to try a zippered one. Flying geese really make use of the wonderful fabric.
Definitely the zippered pocket. Since I am a little clumsy and drop things this keeps things from falling out!
I like the straight pocket. I like to keep things simple.
I love zip pockets.
I’d want a fabric pocket
I like the mesh pocket for a cosmetic bag or the flying geese is a great idea for a regular pocket!
GIVEAWAY HAS CLOSED! Winner announced shortly! ?
