This is a great little purse. For such a small purse there are a lot of pieces, but the instructions are detailed, so it came together easily. There are also a couple of pattern hack blogs which guide you through how to really personalise the pattern, so you can make exactly the purse you want. A key step is trimming the seams, to make sure you don’t end up with bulky seams. I found it a really enjoyable make and plan on making lots of versions.

So many pieces to this pattern, found the instructions ok except for assembling the finished flap then getting the last pieces together, very confused.turning it all through the small zipper pocket was a mission.
End result is a cute and useful purse and am sure my next attempt will be better.

I looked for a really useful wallet pattern and the Layla Essentials Purse was perfect. While there are a lot of pieces, the directions are clear. All the suggestions of clipping curves and trimming seams are essential for smooth corners. I really appreciated having wider seams allowed when stitching than most patterns that allow too. I found this to be a really well written pattern and I’ve now got a wallet that holds all my “essential” cards, cash and more, which closes and fits easily in my purses.
