Adventure Time Backpack Sew Along: Introduction

Adventure Time Backpack Sew Along - Andrie Designs

It’s Adventure Time!!!

For those that don’t know me, I’m Rachael from Sew Today, Clean Tomorrow. I’m very excited to announce that after much discussion (I begged and pleaded until she said yes), Lisa has agreed to let me host an Adventure Time Backpack Sew Along. WOO HOO!!!

I can tell you right now that this is a truly awesome bag. I made the large, with all the options, for my daughter for kindergarten. Not only does it fit all of her school needs perfectly, she receives compliments left, right and centre. Her teacher was amazed that it was handmade.

If you’re worried about the complexity of this bag, don’t be. It’s actually a much easier sew than it seems. I would consider myself an intermediate skill level and I found this quite easy. Even my piping worked thanks to Lisa’s super clear instructions. It’s also easy to add and remove options as you see fit. You could make the entire bag, as I did, or simply a shell with no additional pockets. The choice is yours.

But enough about me. Let’s talk sew along.

The Adventure Time Backpack Sew Along has been designed to be a fun, social event that will help you tackle this pattern one step at a time (How do you eat an elephant?). Each week I will release a series of blog posts that relate to the pattern instructions. We will then use the Andrie Designs Facebook group to ask questions, post photos, and support each other through this epic adventure.

This is a great opportunity for those of you that may be intimidated by a larger project, would like a little extra guidance, or generally just enjoy sewing in a social environment.

Where to from here? On Friday, 24 June 2016, I will release the first blog post where we will be cutting and fusing our pieces. In the meantime, you will need to purchase and print your pattern (consider the large print format…it ROCKS!!!), decide on your options, and gather your materials.

Most of the pattern pieces are fairly self-explanatory, but here is a guide to where some of the less obvious pieces fall on the finished bag.

You may also like to download and print Lisa’s Quick Reference sheets that are referred to in the pattern. These give detailed tutorials on common tasks such as cutting bias strips or creating and attaching piping.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask in the Andrie Designs Facebook group.

Until next week…

Are these going to be in blog form that we can look at any time or is it going to be a video. I know this sounds dumb and I probably missed something but am raring to do this with all of you.
