Pattern hack party time! As soon as I got my hands on the Bree’s Box Toiletry Caddy pattern I knew instantly it was going to be hacked to carry nail polish. It’s my second addiction to fabric 😉 With this hack, I’ll show you how to add elastic loops to your inner lining gusset to keep those polishes safe inside! This hack is also excellent for essential oil lovers too!
Not familiar with the Bree’s Box Toiletry Caddy tote bag pattern? Not to worry! You can find it here. Plus! There’s also a full length video tutorial available for this pattern as well! Click here to find out more!
What you’ll need!
- Completed exterior of your Bree’s Box Toiletry Caddy
- Your lining gussets and base
- Elastic that is 14.5 long
Quick tip before we start – I’m using Ripstop Nylon. One side is slightly slippery, this is your waterproof side and you want it facing towards the INSIDE of your bag for ease of cleaning!
First step we need to do is place our elastic 1.5″(4cm) up from the bottom of your gusset.
Sew the ends and middle in place going over the stitching a few times to secure the elastic.
Next we need to sew the sections to slide everything into. For most standard nail polishes and essential oil bottles 1.75″ (4.5cm) works great. Feel free to adjust to suit your needs!
Repeat for the other side of your gusset.
Now go ahead and assemble your lining as per Creating Your Lining – Step 23 in the pattern and complete your Caddy. (Side note – I left out my inner pocket to let the nail polish shine for this tutorial!)
Place your nail polish or oils inside and now you’re all organized!
